Al Barari was established in 2005 by Emirati entrepreneur Zaal Mohammed Zaal, whose family has long-standing roots in horticulture and landscaping. The founding idea was bold for its time: in a market dominated by glass towers, build a residential district where planting comes before architecture.
A vision centred on nature
The very name, derived from the Arabic word for wilderness, sums up the philosophy. More than half of the community's 15.3 million square feet is devoted to themed gardens, water features and biodiversity. Vogue has described Al Barari as a benchmark for luxurious and sustainable living.
A niche position in the UAE market
Rather than chasing volume, Al Barari chose depth: a single master plan developed phase by phase, which today brings together:
- ultra-premium villas and residences;
- apartment buildings woven into the landscape;
- retail, dining and wellness destinations;
- gardens and nurseries that shape the entire community.
According to the group's official profile, its experience spans more than 15 complexes, around 500 villas and over 2,000 residential units, with references cited in Lebanon, Turkey, Morocco and Portugal as well as the UAE. In Dubai, Al Barari holds a distinctive place as the developer that turned ecology into a luxury proposition, long before sustainability became a mainstream trend in the emirate.
