Dubai Marina, known in Arabic as Marsa Dubai, is a masterplanned waterfront community established in 2003 in the heart of 'New Dubai'. The district spans 4.9 km² and was built around an entirely man-made canal stretching 3 kilometres along the Persian Gulf shoreline.
Key Highlights of Dubai Marina
- 3 km artificial canal excavated from the desert and fed by the Persian Gulf
- Over 200 skyscrapers, with 90% being residential towers
- Home to Princess Tower, one of the tallest residential buildings in the world
- Inspired by the Concord Pacific Place development in Vancouver, Canada
- Designed by HOK Canada and developed by Emaar Properties
- Capacity to accommodate over 120,000 residents
The development was executed in two major phases. Phase I included six freehold towers named after precious stones and Arabic scents: Al Mass, Fairooz, Murjan, Mesk, Anbar and Al Yass. Phase II introduced the famed Tallest Block in the world, featuring skyscrapers between 250 and 366 metres, including the twisting Cayan Tower, Ocean Heights and the record-breaking Ciel Dubai Marina at 366 metres.
More than 12% of the total land area is dedicated to public space, including the marina waterway and nearly 8 km of beautifully landscaped promenades — making it one of Dubai's most pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods.
