Few neighbourhoods in Dubai tell the city's story as vividly as Al Jaddaf (also spelled Al Jadaf). It began as a shipbuilding site where craftsmen assembled wooden dhows, the vessels that once linked the emirate with India and East Africa. Part of the waterfront is still home to shipyards and dry docks. A giant dhow is even being built there in pursuit of a world record.
Around this historic core, the district has changed dramatically. Residential towers, upscale hotels and landmark public buildings now form a modern cityscape. Downtown Dubai and Business Bay are just minutes away.
Key Landmarks in Al Jaddaf
- Mohammed Bin Rashid Library: one of the largest libraries in the Arab world, shaped like a rehal (book stand) and facing the Creek
- Zabeel Stadium, home of Al Wasl FC
- Latifa Hospital, a leading women's and children's hospital
- Dubai Healthcare City Phase 2 and the Culture Village project
- Palazzo Versace Dubai, an iconic luxury hotel on the Creek
The atmosphere is calmer than in the skyscraper clusters of New Dubai. The district has a strong cultural identity and open views across the Creek towards the Dubai Creek Harbour skyline.
There is another notable advantage. According to the Dubai Land Department, 329 plots in the area are eligible for conversion from leasehold to freehold. Owners can check eligibility through the Dubai REST app.
